2020 - Cherish Pittman (Howard university)

Cherish Pittman is a graduate of Renaissance High School. She was very involved in high school and during her senior year she was also featured on season 14 of the NBC hit show, “America’s Got Talent” with the Detroit Youth Choir. The choir received the Golden Buzzer From Terry Crews and finished as runner up of the show. She now attends Howard University with a major in Media, Journalism & Film. Her future goals include working in media to inform, educate, enlighten, and enrich the public. She believes that pursuing journalism will allow her to be a role model and an example of black female excellence that will further open the doors for more black women to be news anchors, media producers and pursue any other career they can imagine.

2020 - Miles Richards (College for Creative Studies)

Miles Richards is a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School, who values self-expression and honesty as much as he values the ability to breathe. He plans to dedicate his life to helping those around him learn to self-express as honestly as they possibly can. He is now a student at the College for Creative Studies where he majors in Animation and minor in Brand Design & Advertisement.

2020 - MAKIAH SHIPP (University of Michigan)

Makiah Shipp is a graduate of Detroit Edison Early College. She is currently a student at The University of Michigan where she studies Political Science and Public Policy. Throughout high school she developed a strong passion for youth advocacy and representation especially within inner city Detroit. She continues to be committed to providing underrepresented youth with the resources that they need to be successful. In the future, she hopes to represent communities like hers by securing a seat for myself in office and advocating for inclusive legislation. At the age of 18, Makiah has established herself as a local presence and influencer hoping to empower young teens to persevere beyond their circumstances.

2019 - Christian JOHNSON (mICHIGAN TECH UNIVERSITY)

Christian Johnson is a graduate and valedictorian of Communication and Media Arts High School. He is a WXYZ Brightest and Best Scholar, an honorable mention for the Academic All-State Award, an award winning journalist for the district's newspaper, and is currently part of the Pavlis Honors College at Michigan Technological University. He also is an author and songwriter. He is currently earning a bachelor's degree in biological sciences.

2018 - Lauryn AZU (uNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN)

Lauryn is graduated summa cum laude at West Bloomfield High School in 2018, and currently attends the University of Wisconsin this fall. In high school she was very involved, serving as President of African American Awareness Club, Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Vice President of the Southfield Delta GEMS, debuted in the 2018 Essence de Noir Cotillion, a member of the National Honor Society, and finally served as a mentor to elementary school students. During this time, she also engaged herself in rigorous coursework and maintained a 4.0 average GPA. She takes pride in both her service to others and her academic achievements and is enjoying her new journey in Madison, Wisconsin.
