  • Maintain grades. Know what GPA you need, and make it your top priority to achieve and maintain it.

  • Top Choices List. Time to start thinking about what school to go to!

  • Research, research research! Peruse online. Consult family members, teachers, trusted adults, older friends, mentors. Think about what you want your experience to be like

  • Identify top choices, and back up choices.

  • College Visits. Plan to go to the actual school to get a feel for what it’s like and to meet students and faculty.

  • Call ahead for appointments with financial aid, admissions & academic advisors.

  • Send thank-you notes as well as email post visit.

  • Find out requirements of each school. Each school will have unique admissions requirements. Find out what is needed from each, make a checklist, and make sure you’re set up to get everything in on time.

  • ACT/SAT registration & test. Register for the ACT or SAT, or both. Give yourself time to study, send scores, and potentially re-take the test.

  • Gather Recommendation letters. Talk to teachers, counselors, advisors, and other adults. Make your request 1 month in advance.

  • Research Scholarships, and apply. Find out requirements, make a checklist with a timeline, and stick to it.
